As our world becomes smaller and smaller through communication technology, rapid air transportation and a complex international economy, the value of peaceful and cooperative relationships between nations is increasingly important. International cooperation is essential to preserve peace and promote security, prosperity and justice throughout the world. Major issues like environmental protection, the war on drugs, gender equality, food security cannot be resolved at local or regional level, but require a global approach.
Consequently, it is important that Belarus pursues an active foreign policy, which includes supporting international organizations through the provision of funding, manpower and ideas.
The Republic of Belarus is an export-oriented state with a developed industry, agriculture and services sector. The country traditionally realizes a multi-vector foreign trade policy, supports trade contacts with foreign countries, and actively participates in international integration processes. Nowadays Belarus has trade relations with more than 180 countries around the world.
At the moment the Belarusian state is a member of more than 100 international organizations.
In 1945 Belarus joined the ranks of founders of the United Nations Organization. UN member states highly appreciate the success of Belarus in providing social and economic rights including the right to education, health protection, social protection, state support of the family. The country is a member of the Economic and Social Council- one of the main bodies for the coordination of the economic and social activity of the UN.
Belarus is the co-founder of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) which includes 11 countries of the former Soviet Union. The headquarters of this organization is located in Minsk.
The Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation are members of the Customs Union. At present the 3 countries are working on further extension of the Common Economic Space. Belarus is also a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The cooperation of Belarus with NATO and the program “Partnership for Peace” is aimed at the development of a constructive dialogue in order to strengthen European and international security.
Since 1992 Belarus has been the member of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Belarus is eager to fruitful cooperation with all countries, encourages consolidation of the security system in Europe, stands for peace on the planet and for the development of good-neighborhood and friendship relations between nations.

World-famous Belarusian tennis player, Olympic champion Max Mirnyi is known not only for his achievements in the world of tennis. In Svetlogorsk November 15, 2011, Maxim Mirnyi was appointed a United Nations Children’s Fund Belarus Ambassador. In his new role, Mirnyi uses his fame and personal interest in children’s issues to support UNICEF’s mission to attract attention to the most vulnerable children, to promote a healthy lifestyle, a responsible parenting approach, and participate in HIV and AIDS prevention campaigns.

Four-time Olympic champion biathlete Darya Domracheva has been appointed UNDP Goodwill Ambassador in Belarus. She takes part in the promotion of healthy lifestyle among children, adolescents, and adults. The UNDP is working with a number of well-known goodwill ambassadors. Young people, promote healthy lifestyles, and Daria has a number of achievements and Olympic medals. Therefore, she will definitely be able to convey all the values associated with a healthy lifestyle. Darya is able to convey that message to young people.
Darya Domracheva: “Goodwill Ambassador is a very honourable title for me. And I think that by means of the joint interesting activities we can positively influence the development of the younger generation, help them with something.” The official ceremony of appointment took place in Svetlogorsk during the joint visit of the Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to the Republic of Belarus Yuri Oksamitny and Maxim Mirny.
